The Maplelea Story

Focus groups were conducted with girls, mothers, and community members to obtain ideas and suggestions for product features and storylines.

The doll's face was modeled after a girl from Aurora, Ontario.

The doll’s head, arms and legs were sculpted by a local artist.

The transformation from clay sculpture to plaster mould to wax sample to copper mould to vinyl doll was a long and painstaking process with extensive checking and refining at every stage.

Fashion trends were studied and insights relevant to girls' clothing preferences were gleaned from style magazines, the Internet, the malls, and detailed observation.

Countless sketches, paintings, and digital images were rendered to develop the journals, logos and packaging. A unique style of artwork was developed for each of the Maplelea Girl characters to use in her journal.

Nearly a hundred initial design concepts were fabricated prior to finalizing the outfit collection for Maplelea™.
